MySQL Database 2 Excel KonvertR 1.00
--=====================================--
Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to have Excel installed for this to work?

Yes. You will need to have Microsoft Excel installed on the same computer as the MySQL Database 2 Excel KonvertR .exe file in order for it to function. The reason for this is that MySQL Database 2 Excel KonvertR uses something called COM objects to automatically start up Excel and generate the Excel file.

KonvertR tells me that I can't connect to my MySQL database. Why?

The program requires that you have proper access to your MySQL database. Most ISP's, for example, will limit access to your MySQL database to scripts located on your web server. If this is the case, you'll have to download and install MySQL on a local computer and copy your database to the local machine. Links to some tools to help you in this process:

  • PhpDev: a highly recommended freeware installation package that makes it ultra-easy to install MySQL, Apache & PHP on your Windows computer.
  • PhpMyAdmin: a great opensource tool written in PHP that can aid you in transferring your MySQL databases from one server (ie: your website) to another server (ie: your local server).

Why are the contents of my Timestamp or Date/Time fields displayed as '##########' in Excel?

This is because the column is not wide enough in your Excel file to display the entire contents properly. This is easily fixed: just go to the top of that column in Excel and pull the column header horizontally to increase the column's width. The complete date/time info will then be properly displayed.

Why won't Excel open my file when I doubleclick on it?

So far this problem has occurred on only one computer that I've used for testing. If you have this problem using the KonvertR, close all instances of Excel if it's running on your computer. Then start Excel again and open the Excel file generated by the KonvertR using the File ==> Open menu in Excel's upper left-hand corner.
