| Head |
Over the horizon strides a huge forehead, just a large human forehead
not attached to head or neck or body.
Forehead glides in the air over craggy rocks and dirt, tilts slightly upward and lets out its deafening roar to the heavens. There's a long pause and then the silence is broken by an almost identical howl coming from the distance. This call is not an echo but a response from a similar creature. Forehead appears agitated, furls its brow, then responds to the other caller with a roar more fearsome than the first. Another, slightly different wail is heard, but this time it's noticeably closer. A second forehead just like the first edges into view. The pair square off, facing and glaring at one another. Then there's no further delay, no other noise from either party, before the first forehead hurls itself aggressively through the air, hitting itself squarely against the other forehead which falls back a bit, losing a bit of ground, then rights itself, reasserting its composure. A violent battle ensues, with the two foreheads crashing into and butting one another with their brows again and again like two full-grown rams knocking horns. The action continues for hours with the pair equally matched. Sounds of bone striking bone travel far across the uninterrupted terrain. Days later both foreheads are gone and the area is completely empty save for two limp, sun-dried shards of human brow laying all flopped out across the ground. The foreheads, in a fight to the death, have been reduced to skinned hunks, flaps of red/brown leather skin suitable for making into wallets (brow jerky, anyone?). In the far left corner lays the cause of their confrontation. A hat. |
